Usage :
- Indicate a past event that almost happened but did not.
- It is used to indicate speaker�s relief that the event did not happen
- Often use together with adverb ???? (almost, nearly)
- Often use together with -?/??? and -?/???? to indicate a hypothetical past situation. (example 6,7,8)
